The Anti-Tribalism Movement (ATM) will hold Unite Summit, inviting 50 key community leaders/organisations, academic, government officials, and practitioners who have been at the forefront of the community response to Covid-19 and beyond.
The Unite Summit aims to hold a wider dialogue on our shared challenges and solutions which affect the Somali community in the UK. This Summit will give us the opportunity to discuss and present policy recommendations. In 2020 and 2021, we produced five policy briefs which reflected on issues which Somalis in the UK faced and further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. They are as follows:
- COVID-19 – Impact on the Somali Community
- COVID-19: Impact on Remittances from the UK to Somalia
- Improving Mental Health Support for the UK Somali Community
- COVID-19 and Women: The UK’s Horn of Africa Communities
- COVID-19, Unemployment and The Somali Community
This one-day Summit will focus on these thematic areas, guided by presentations and workshops. This will enable us to dissect some of the thematic and structural issues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. This Summit is an opportunity to add value, ideas and instigate practical solutions that can be part of the recovery plan from the pandemic.
