The launch of the Somali Sideways photo book
You are cordially invited to the launch of the Somali Sideways photobook in partnership with Bush Theatre on Saturday 30rd June 2018 from 6 – 8 pm at 7 Uxbridge Rd, Shepherd’s Bush, London W12 8LJ.
Somali Sideways is a photography project that started four years ago with the sole purpose of trying to bring positive stories of Somalis from around the world. In the mainstream media, the Somali region has been perceived with negative stereotypes and one of the main reasons why this project developed was to change the perceptions of how the world views the Somali region. So, in celebrating I’ve organised a book launch to show the world that Somalis are contributing to society on a local, national and international level.
At the book launch,
– we want to share stories of participants that have been part of the project for many years.
– We believe that this is important as they have done a vast number of things since the story was published and this will hopefully shed some light into their personal journey.
– We will also reflect on the experiences that led them to their current position and the lessons that they’ve learnt in the process.
The event will include panel discussion from various speakers on the themes of changing the narrative and a chance to engage in more depth with the stories in the book.
