Somalia has been for quite a long time referred to as a failed state, and despite having an internationally recognised but weak government, the country has come a long way since the civil war erupted over two decades ago. Somalia is situated in a very strategic location, with a vast range of natural resources than its surrounding neighbours. It is located in a region that is of great importance to the Western world’s economic and security interests.

Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur ”Americo”, the longest-serving Somali ambassador to Kenya will be discussing the diplomatic and bilateral relations between Somalia and Kenya, that has continued to grow even after Somalia adopted a post-transitional government.

The following are to be discussed:

  • Brief update on the relationship between Somalia and Kenya.
  •  The consequence of Westgate attack has  caused  Somalis in Kenya.
  • The status of Somali refugees in Kenya and the refugee repatriation programme back to Somalia.
  • The Somali government’s maritime dispute with Kenya
  • Are Kenyans seeking a buffer zone in Somalia?
