Somali Women in Media – Changing the Narrative
Join us for an exciting panel discussion that will bring together a talented collective of Somali women with vast expertise in the media industry. The event aims both to change the media perceptions of Somalis and encourage more Somali women to enter the media industry. By encouraging more Somali women into the media industry, we highlight and challenge the stereotypes of our women. By showcasing their hard work and vibrancy, we present Somali women as articulate, competent and strong individuals and we counter these perceptions together. Having more Somali women at the forefront in the industry can inspire the next generation to follow suit.
The event focuses on the opportunities, challenges and narrative of Somali women in the media. The panel will:
– share their journeys, challenges and solutions within the media industry.
– show how we can encourage more Somali women and girls to enter the media industry.
– create platforms where young Somali women can access tools and expert advise from industry leaders of Somali origin.
We are thrilled to welcome our wonderful speakers for the night which promises to be an engaging discussion. Please join us on the 9th of April 2018.
